Same climb. Different store. The Fortnite outfit is the only real fork.
Launch is September 17, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. The full game is still upcoming. The playable object today is the demo. This page is the buy-brain: where to put money, what the Fernet Fortnite gift actually requires, and what does not change between storefronts.

Older 2024 articles that only mentioned PC are outdated. Gematsu (June 2026) and Games Press (August 2026) both list the consoles.
Whitethorn’s feature list is the clean co-op number: solo or up to three friends. Play the same climb everywhere. Cross-play is not something to promise until the in-game menu says so. Co-op.
Price
Third-party trackers listed Epic around $19.99 USD in the pre-purchase window. Regional SKUs differ (GBP / SGD figures have shown on Epic pages). Steam’s launch sticker is whatever the store shows on the 17th. There is no public deluxe edition to invent. Base game is the SKU.
Epic was a best seller on the Epic Games Store for nearly two weeks after the Fortnite announcement, per Whitethorn’s September 1, 2026 post. That is hype, not a review score. Metacritic still showed tbd before launch week. Third-party Steam trackers sat around 37k wishlists in the week before launch. Wishlist is not a review either.
Same-game, different store is the whole point of this page. If you already know you want Fernet’s Fortnite cosmetic, Epic is the SKU. If you do not play Fortnite, Steam is the usual PC default. Consoles wait for the 17th. Do not buy two PC copies “just in case.”
Fernet in Fortnite (the only store fork)
From August 17, 2026, pre-purchasing Kernel Hearts on the Epic Games Store with the same Epic account used for Fortnite grants the Fernet Outfit. During the pre-purchase window that was the only path. The offer continues when the game becomes purchasable on September 17. A Fortnite Item Shop date of September 26, 2026, 8:00 p.m. ET is in the press release for buying the cosmetic without the game.
Ephemera is the first Argentinian / Latin American studio in that Epic-to-Fortnite gift program. Fun. It does not change Fernet’s saber or Koka.
Steam-only and console-only players skip the skin and lose nothing in Babel.
Demo before you pay
Install the demo on Steam or Epic. Confirm Folktale Fields feels like a game you want for a week, not a trailer you liked for two minutes. Getting Started and the demo walkthrough exist so launch night is not your tutorial. Japanese VO needs a New Game on the August demo build.
Do not assume demo chips, unlocks, or wallets transfer unless launch notes say they do.
What not to buy
