Fernet — Kernel Hearts Captain

Fernet is the first playable character, the story protagonist, and the captain of the M.A.H.O.U. Unit. She is the face of the August 2026 Fortnite crossover: pre-purchase Kernel Hearts on the Epic Games Store with the same account and you receive her outfit. That marketing is extra. In the game she is the on-ramp.

Identity

Community and in-game materials describe Fernet as Argentinian, shorter than her squadmates, caramel skin, golden yellow eyes, short pink hair with lavender highlights, dark blue beret and skirt, light tactical armor over a white shirt. She wields a saber and uses telekinetic / spirit tools. Her pet is Koka. The name is a wink at Fernet con coca, the Argentine drink — the studio is Argentine, the joke is on purpose.

Personality: captain who interrupts, more “normal” than her peers, the player’s reasonable camera. The Creator tasks her with leading the unit through the Tower. She is expressive; that is why cutscenes follow her even if you later main Spika.

True-form key art (long pink hair, frills, star clips) is the transformation body, not her town outfit. Do not panic when the lab model looks different from the library banner.

Kit

Epic’s demo hands-on calls her a Spiritmancer: balanced offense and defense, one-handed sword, dashes, dodges, blocks, familiars.

Koka — summons the pet to shoot nearby enemies. Notes from community pages: recast stacks, high DPS AoE. This is her identity. If you are not recasting Koka, you are playing a worse saber user.

Raiquen — launch a bird as a projectile. Good range, burst DPS. This is your Pixip button and your “I got knocked back” button.

Pick Fernet if you like easy setups, strong spells, and kiting. Avoid her if you want the strongest raw melee and hate being pushed around. That last weakness is real: her melee kit is the forgiving one, not the peak one. Spika exists for that itch.

How to play her in Folktale Fields

1. Enter a pack, drop Koka, light string, dodge, recast Koka if the clone still stacks on your build.
2. Pixips and floaters: Raiquen, do not jump forever.
3. Petrified angels: only wake them if you have Koka down and a reason.
4. B-Cho Ringleader: pre-stack pets, save a Raiquen for a float phase, do not greed heavies through casters. Route: demo walkthrough.
5. Transform with pets already summoned so the burst is not your only damage.

Block is part of her kit. Use it. Spika players who swap to Fernet and never guard are fighting her design.

Chips that fit

Buy mana, pet uptime, and survivability before raw saber damage. She already kites; she needs the tank to stay in the meadow while Koka works. Full logic is on chips and builds. In co-op she is a natural anchor — pets hold space while Spika and Laika commit. See co-op.

Story job

Fernet is the unit the Creator trusts to navigate the Tower. She is also the Fortnite poster, which will confuse people who only know the skin. The skin is a gift-with-purchase, not a gameplay unlock. Dates and offer windows are on the release date page.

Compared to the rest

• Versus Spika: safer, worse inside-fighting, better pets.
• Versus Laika: faster, less slam, less blood magic AoE.
• Versus Dolce: documented. Play Fernet until Dolce’s screen gives you a reason not to.

Fernet is not a throw pick. She is the designed first hour. Main her until the bar makes sense, then reroll for fun, not because a thumbnail called her weak.
