Kernel Hearts M.A.H.O.U. Units Hub

The M.A.H.O.U. Unit is the entire playable cast advertised for launch: Fernet, Spika, Laika, and Dolce. They are android magical girls built to climb the Tower of Babel, die, restore from backup, and climb again. This hub is the roster index. Rankings live on the tier list. How they press buttons lives in combat.

The squad at a glance

• Fernet — Captain. Argentinian. Saber. Telekinesis / spiritmancer. Default starter. Spells: Koka, Raiquen. Pet named Koka.
• Spika — Japanese. Katana. Physical melee and aerials. Spells: Sangetsu, Higanbana. Common demo unlock.
• Laika — Russian-coded backstory, greatsword Damocles, hemokinesis. Spells: Blades, Blood Pillar. Soft spot for Dolce.
• Dolce — Fourth unit. Name is Italian for “sweet.” Public kit writeups are thinner than the other three; confirm her weapon on the select screen of your build.

Official site and wiki community pages present these four as the squad. There is no secret fifth starter in the marketing.

Who to play first

Fernet if you want the story camera and a kit that forgives bad spacing. Spika if Fernet’s saber feels like it lacks bite — many demo comments say the game “starts” when she unlocks. Laika if you like heavy weapons and blood magic projectiles. Dolce if you have seen her in the current client and her tools click; do not invent a main off key art alone.

How units are built, in lore and in systems

The Creator in Babel maintains the androids. Death is a new model waking from backup, not a permadeath. Chips on MAHOU.OS are the mechanical version of “the Creator knows his tools.” That is why character pages talk about kits (weapon + spells) and then send you to chips and builds for the 256KB layer. A Fernet with no mana chips is not the Fernet in the trailer.

Transformation true forms are a shared fantasy with per-character animation. Timing is a floor rule, not a unique ult gauge with published numbers. Use the transformation guide.

NPCs are not playable, but they matter

Babel’s residents — Creator, scavengers Rhea and Haru, artificers Tofu and Toke, bar owner Momo, plus Tower allies like Nura, Daiki, Mikolaj, and Fang — are the bonding layer. They do not belong on this roster, but skipping them is how you treat Kernel Hearts like a score-attack and then wonder why the town exists. Full page: Babel and bonds. Demo vs launch roster

Your select screen is truth. Videos from March 2026 may hide units that an August build shows. If Dolce or Laika is greyed out, play the two you have. The demo walkthrough includes an unlock note for Spika.
